Crawling Baby Commotion
Life since Chloe has become mobile has been a bit... busier. For starters, the carpet gets vacuumed everyday because even if there's nothing to be found, Chloe will find something. She's always trying to pull up on something and constantly bumping her head on something (or at least it feels that way). She has yet to have a bruise though, so that's good. I thought she would wake up with one right smack dab in the middle of her forehead this morning, but she didn't. I think she's really starting to test her boundaries too, which gives us that many more opportunities to learn the word "no". We've been trying to teach her the meaning of that word and that when mommy and daddy say it, it's not an option or a difference of opinion. *sigh* It's a working progress...

On the Move!
I would like to start off by announcing that last night Chloe sat up on her own. She was laying on her belly and then just twisted right around to a sitting position! She's been pretty close for awhile, but she actually did it last night! It was so fast, and I was watching her play, but thinking about something else (probably how happy I was I vacuumed earlier that day as I was staring at the carpet) so not completely paying attention and I almost missed it! I was so excited for her, and she absolutely loved all the praise she got from Kris and I!
Second of all...
On this day, January 13, 2010, Chloe Marie Savage began CRAWLING!!! I was watching her play from the couch and she started trying to make some motions with her arms while on her knees and I just got this feeling like I should get my camera and record her. It was a good thing I did because I was able to capture some of her first movements! It was so awesome to see her start to figure it out. She's still hasn't completely figured out that she could really get movin' that way, but I'm sure that will come with more practice.
After a few minutes of celebrating I was engulfed in a wave of pure panic over how our little duplex is not very crawling-baby friendly. I spent the next hour or so rearranging things in a mad rush like Chloe was crawling around destroying things already, when in all actuality she hadn't moved an inch... I have no idea why I was acting that way, but I did get in done pretty quickly and it wasn't complete chaos. So that's a plus.
Videos take too long to post on here, so it's on facebook.

Banana Breakfast take 2
We tried bananas for breakfast again, and Chloe did much better! She ate about a 1/3 of it. At first she was having a hard time picking it up off the tray because I cut the pieces small. I mean she only has 2 teeth and I didn't want her choking on it... Anyway, but toward the end she figured out, like the super smart baby she is, that if she pulled the pieces toward the edge of the try, the little ridge it has could help get it up into her hands! She did great! It was funny though, because occasionally she would get to babbling and a piece would slip right through her gums and out her mouth! hahaha

Good Eats
Today Chloe had her first real taste of "big people food". I've been getting caught up in What to Expect: The First Year and was reading the list of real food we could start trying out. I saw a few simple things and picked them up at the store, and so Chloe had real banana for breakfast and cooked noodle for dinner before nursing.
She fed a few pieces of banana to herself, but it was too slippery for her to pick up well and when she actually was able to pick it up she couldn't feel it well enough to know she had it. It was basically just mush.
The noodle was kind of the opposite. I cooked it for what seemed like a long time, but I'm thinking I should have cooked it for longer. The noodles were soft, but needed to be more like falling apart so that gumming the pieces would suffice. She ate a few pieces but then just started to play with them in her mouth.
We'll keep trying and keep you posted!!!

Pull Up or Should I Say Pull IN???
Chloe started to pull up a tiny bit yesterday... well, it was really more of a pull in since she was trying to get into her toy box. What happened was this:
I had Chloe on the floor next to her toy box with a few toys around her. Every once in a while she'll look at her toy box in aw of all the stuff inside, especially if she sees a toy she really likes but hasn't played with in a while. Apparently this was one of those times because she reached over, grabbed the top of the basket, and just started pulling! She's really lucky that there were so many toys in there because the basket started to tip up, but with all of them in it, it counteracted her weight. So with the basket tipped forward a bit and her butt pulled up off the floor, she just about dove right in! But, she started to loosen up the tension in her arms and fell back to the floor. I was hoping she would try again, and she started to, but then decided it wasn't worth the time.
Hopefully the fact that she hasn't completely figured out pulling up or crawling quite yet means that I have more time to baby proof the house a bit more...

Baby Talk
I can believe I forgot to mention in my last post that on December 20th, 2009 Chloe Marie Savage said her first word! She said, drum roll please......................... BYE-BYE and waved her hand! Kris wouldn't let me write it in her baby book at first because he REALLY wanted her first word to be da-da, but he eventually saw the light and realized she really was saying bye-bye. By the way, she does say da-da occasionally, she just doesn't associate it with Kris. She likes to babble. She does however know who mommy and daddy are. The other day we kept asking her "where did daddy go?" and "where's mommy?" and stuff like that and she almost always would immediately look to the person we were asking about. Unless that person was the one holding her. Then she just looked at us funny like, "duh, are you guys blind she's holding me!".
Oh man, and the past few days she started to become a real mama's baby... I thought I would like secretly like it a little bit, but after almost every time I leave the room or even look like I'm gonna leave the room, she starts whining and crying, it gets to be a bit of a burden. I've made myself a promise that I'm not gonna adjust what and when I do something just to keep her from crying. I don't believe that would be good for her or for me.
ALL WEEK LONG she has been quite the early riser. Yesterday and Monday it wasn't so bad because I had to get up early anyway, but Sunday she woke up early when I was really looking forward to sleeping in a bit before church, and today... HOLY COW she woke up at 5:30 am! She managed to stay ok in there until about 6:45, but still. I don't know what the deal is. Whatever it is, I hope it gets worked out soon because I'm exhausted!
She has a new favorite toy...

No, it's not a Christmas present that we new she would absolutely love or anything. It's an old Jimmie Johnson car that I found and threw in her toy box and that she later found in there. She LOVES it! It's practically been attached to her hip (or mouth I should say).
She's starting to out grow that whole "out of sight, out of mind" thing too. If there's something she wants that she had, but put down to play with something else, there are times when she looks for it. She doesn't always just rediscover it like a brand new toy again. It's kinda sad, and making it a lot harder to hide the things she wants to play with, but can't.
Originally this was going to be a short post about her first word, but I keep thinking of things to say...
Kris wanted to try giving Chloe a lime to see the funny faces she would make, so expecting a big reaction, I taped it. She must have a very high "sour tolerance" because there wasn't that big of a reaction. It wasn't that the lime wasn't sour. Kris ate it after he was done experimenting (gross, I know) and he said it was the most sour lime he'd ever had. After only half of it he said his lips were burning it was so sour.
He wants to try again when she's not so "I'm tired! I'm want my fruit!". SO... expect more to come!

Chloe's first Christmas!
I know, I know, it's about time I got these pictures up, but what can I say? We've been busy!
Before we get to a few of the 73!!! pictures I took of Chloe's first Christmas festivities (can you tell she's a first born?!), I wanted to give you all an update on the things she's doing now. No, she didn't start crawling by Christmas like I wanted, but that's ok. She'll get it eventually and I'm sure it'll be soon enough. She's still very close, and now she can almost get herself back to sitting after being on her belly. She's eating cheerios and those gerber puff things and absolutely LOVES THEM. Banana is her favorite flavor. It took her a few days to figure out how to feed herself, but now she's shoveling them in like crazy! I'm not 100% sure if she's "supposed" to be eating them yet, but I read in "What to Expect: The First Year" that by seven months she should be able to feed herself a cracker. I got a little freaked out with that "Oh No! My baby is behind!" nonsense because she's almost 8 months and we hadn't even TRIED giving her a cracker yet. But anyway, she loves them, can feed herself, and they don't seem to be hurting her in anyway, so I guess we're good to go! She's been teething the last week or so. Working on those top two teeth. Can you say OUCH!? And to end on a positive note, if you ask her where daddy or mommy are, she can look and identify us! YEAH!
Ok, Ok... Savage Family Christmas takes 1-5...
